The Educating Future Citizens (EFC) network is now accepting applications for the Agentic AI and Research training course, aimed at PhD students and researchers.
The event will take place on Friday 15 May at the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) in Trieste and is meant to illustrate the opportunities that agentic AI technologies could offer in supporting and enhancing research, but also to provide an overview of the impacts they have on research activities.
During the first session Natalie Hogg, cosmologist at University of Cambridge, will present the use of LLMs and agentic AI in research, and will compare the positive and negative consequences that LLMs, especially agentic AI, may have on the prosecution of science, with a particular focus on questions of provenance, plagiarism and distrust.
As AI is rapidly becoming embedded in research processes, changing how knowledge is generated and communicated, in the second session Esther Greussing (Technische Universität Braunschweig) will focus on how AI tools can shape education and science communication, and how these domains must adapt to an AI-Infused science.
To conclude, there will be the panel “What future for human scientists?” with Juan Carlos De Martin (Politecnico di Torino), Guido Sanguinetti (SISSA), Emily Sullivan (University of Edinburgh), moderated by Roberto Trotta (SISSA), to discuss the implications of agentic AI for human researchers.
The training course will be held in English and is organised by SISSA and SISSA Medialab.
Places are limited, reserved for PhD students and research personnel from universities and research centres and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications close on 12 May at 11.59 PM.
