Course on Model Predictive Control, covering theory and applications for controlling complex dynamical systems.
From April 13 to 17, 2026, the IMT School will offer the in-presence course Model Predictive Control (MPC) taught by Professor Alberto Bemporad.
Model Predictive Control (MPC) is an advanced control strategy widely used to regulate complex dynamical systems subject to constraints. The method uses a mathematical model of the system to predict its future behavior and determine optimal control actions through numerical optimization.
The course is designed for students, researchers, and engineers interested in learning the theory and practical implementation of MPC. Participants will explore predictive control techniques for constrained dynamical systems, including linear, nonlinear, stochastic, and hybrid systems, together with the optimization methods required to implement MPC in practice.
Topics covered include the basic concepts of linear MPC, extensions to linear time-varying and nonlinear MPC, quadratic programming and explicit MPC, hybrid and stochastic MPC, and recent developments such as learning-based predictive control.
