Annual workshop for early-career researchers in complex systems, fostering interdisciplinary exchange.
From January 12 to 16, 2026, the IMT School will offer the in-presence course Reinforcement Learning taught by Professor Mario Zanon.
Reinforcement Learning is a key technique for solving decision-making problems and can be viewed both as a machine learning method and as an optimal control approach. It addresses Markov Decision Processes, where actions influence future states and rewards. RL has achieved outstanding results, such as surpassing human experts in games like Chess and Go.
The course introduces the fundamentals of RL, presenting core concepts, main algorithms, and advanced topics. A final module will focus on incorporating safety and stability guarantees into RL using control-theoretic tools.
Course Schedule
January 12–16, 2026
