Advancing AI research and innovation through interdisciplinary collaboration between Italian and U.S. scholars.
The IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca and the University of Virginia will host the “UVA–IMT Workshop and Innovation Lab on Artificial Intelligence, Its Applications, and Global Impact” in Lucca from May 25 to May 29.
The initiative brings together faculty researchers and students from Italy and the United States for a week of interdisciplinary exchange focused on the latest developments in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science. Organized in collaboration with the University of Virginia School of Data Science and the LaCross Institute for Ethical Artificial Intelligence in Business, the workshop aims to foster international research collaboration and explore the societal impact of emerging AI technologies.
The program will feature talks, working sessions, and discussions dedicated to a wide range of themes, including network systems, digital twins, neuroscience, finance, and the ethical dimensions of AI. Participants will examine how AI tools can be applied to complex real-world challenges in areas such as healthcare, urban systems, social dynamics, and bioscience, while integrating computational, mathematical, and domain-specific perspectives.
Beyond its scientific focus, the workshop seeks to strengthen the partnership between IMT and UVA and support the next generation of researchers through mentorship, knowledge exchange, and the development of new international collaborations. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to advancing artificial intelligence in ways that are innovative, responsible, and globally relevant.
